I wrestle with the thoughts and stares,
of those who see only my face,
not into my heart or into my soul.

i’m angry at the the world’s cold eye
that sees everyone but me,
and judges no one, except me.

i ache for the days of youth and laughter,
of climbing trees and scrapping my knees,
and the words “i love you” makes it all ok.

i’m searching for the meaning, and purpose of my life,
the reason why i’m here, and what i should do,
the time when i’ll look up and know that i’m alright.

life goes on

bleeding desire
stitching with a kiss
the vast edges of the world
staring over daunting cliffs

and across tranquil bays
tasting the salt, straining my gaze
the light harbored on broad, open seas
is the light of times past, lost in the breeze

and long ago, the sky’s mighty roar
might have sent me running, but no more
for i have dared the cliff and crossed the bay
taunted the sky and learned what none would say

no matter what, there will always be another day

Sometimes I question the reason I write… there is no true ends to it,
it merely comforts me, organizes my thoughts and gives me the hope that in some way I can be immortal. The Philosopher would have me believe that it is an essential part of happiness, and I agree, but to see fake smiles on the fools’ faces makes the unexamined life seem so tempting - yet still I write, and think - and lead a life worth living.

Looking Forward

i’m looking forward to the day
when it doesn’t hurt to breathe.
when i’ll go places far away,
and see the sights i want to see.

i’m looking forward to the day
when my hearts isn’t so empty,
when i’ll say the things i want to say,
and they will all finally look at me.

i’m looking forward to the day
when i can just be free.
to what i want and not obey,
the demands of others who just don’t know.

i’m looking forward to the day
when it doesn’t hurt to breathe.

I love it (sarcastically) when someone nonchalantly says to me, “let me read your writing” or “play me a song”.

I want to say back, “let me see your soul. Put your heart in my hand. I want to look at it”.

Some people just don’t get it…

damned if you do, damned if you don’t…

his palms are sweaty and his knees ache.
either way he goes, his heart will surely break.
he stares at the road in front of him.
he takes a step forward, his body stiff and grim.

damned if he does, damned if he won’t…

her eyes are closed, and her mouth is tight.
she lays awake on her bed in the middle of the night.
she thinks about the family and the man she wants to marry.
the weight of the choice is more than she can carry.

damned if she does, damned if she won’t…

you look out across the sea to a land far away,
you wonder if you’ll go there, maybe someday.
they tell you to stay, to never leave them alone.
but you look at them and say, “there my heart has already flown.”

you’re damned if you do, and damned if you won’t,
but break away and find your peace.

Time for a little pep talk here. The truth of the matter is that while it may feel like it, you don’t screw up anymore than anyone else…you are as human as the rest of us and you need to remember that mistakes are part of life. Time to stop comparing yourself with others and live your best life.

14 Things to Remember When You Think You’re Not Good Enough by Katherine Eion

Mrs. Darling: There are many different kinds of bravery. There’s the bravery of thinking of others before one’s self. Now, your father has never brandished a sword nor fired a pistol, thank heavens. But he has made many sacrifices for his family, and put away many dreams.
Michael: Where did he put them?
Mrs. Darling: He put them in a drawer. And sometimes, late at night, we take them out and admire them. But it gets harder and harder to close the drawer… He does. And that is why he is brave.
